HE Mr Andrej BenedejÄiÄ,
Ambassador - Permanent Representative

Dear visitor,

Welcome to the webpage of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the NATO.

Slovenia became a member of the North Atlantic Alliance on 29 March 2004. The invitation to join NATO was proof that its members at that time recognised Slovenia as a state capable, in terms of politics and defence, of contributing to the implementation of the basic provisions of the North Atlantic Treaty, which despite its 60 years of existence still remains the basic document of the Euro-Atlantic community.

Regardless of the nature of security challenges, NATO’s basic mission remains constant, i.e. guaranteeing security and stability for its member countries. Ever since its establishment in 1949, NATO has been characterised by ongoing development and by adapting to meet new security challenges, which was particularly accelerated after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

Andrej BenedejÄiÄ
